Etta Jean graduated from Oolitic High School in 1946, with my Dad, Harvey P. Jeffries, my Aunt Irene Jeffries Piper, and my Uncle Gerald E. ("Bud") Hillenburg. Both Etta Jean & I grew up in Oolitic, and we knew a lot of the same people.
In 1964, she was instrumental in my being hired at Indiana Bell Telephone Company. In the 1970's, Etta Jean and I both were transferred to Bloomington and we rode to work together for several years.
She was like extended family, not only to me, but to all my family, and she was a friend to everyone.
In many ways, she was one of the most loving, compassionate, and generous people I've ever known.
She was a hard worker, and loved her family with all her heart. She was so proud of her family and really treasured the time she could be with them.
She taught me a lot, not only about our jobs, our town of Oolitic, but also about humanity and life. It was a true blessing to have known her, and I am very grateful to have spent so many hours in her presence.
My thoughts and prayers are with all the family.

Imet Etta Jean through my mother-in-law and her best friend Elsie Stanley. I had lots of lunches and shopping trips with these two funny ladies and never had a better time anywhere! It did not seem to matter that I was younger they accepted me and welcomed me to thier personal party. Etta Jean had the easiest laugh and was always in a happy mood and ready to travel somewhere. She and Elsie went to Florida and Indianapolis and just anywhere on a whim. I remember her fondly and wish peace for her family.
