Mary Margaret's enthusiasm for history and her knowledge of our community's past drew me to her. I loved to hear her share a story and laugh about a memory from the past. She could start a story, then jump up and disappear into another room and come back with a treasure from the past to highlight the story she was telling. I feel so honored to have worked with her on projects in the community and to have been her friend.

I was friends with Mary Margaret for many years and served with her on the Historic Preservation Committee. My Mom and my Aunt Margie knew her for many years before I did, and Claudia worked with my sister Joanne for several years. Mary Margaret was an amazing lady, very knowledgeable about many things, but especially history. She was a joy to be around. She will be missed by many people. Love and prayers to all her family.

Lawrence County has lost an iconic figure. Mary Margaret's work with the Times Mail and her passion for researching the history of Lawrence County has given information that probably would have not been discovered without her work. She was a delightful lady who loved her Church, her family and sharing her information about the history of south-central Indiana. Mary Margaret lived across the street from my family most of my life. She was my mother’s friend in high school. When my dad’s family moved to Bedford, they rented a house from the Stipps. I am sorry for your loss.

Mary Margaret was a wonderful lady. So much knowledge. She was a wealth of information to many. I remember seeing her walking up "I" Street to Masses. Our Church has missed her. My condolences to her family.

I worked with and for Mary Margaret at the Times-Mail in the early 1980s. Her sense of humor, grace and wisdom was a godsend on many days in the office. She knew I quilted for several years and kept me supplied with thimbles. Once I had a cat with too many kittens. She took one and dubbed it Barn Kitty. For years, she'd give me updates on Barn Kitty's antics. Mary Margaret was a gift to all who knew her. I'm glad she was a part of my life, even if it was brief.
