My sincerest sympathies to Thelma and family at this great loss. Herman and Thelma were good friends to my folks and I had the opportunity to spend time with them a few years in a row in Florida. Thelma and family. Brenda and I want to tell you that we were sadden to hear of Herman passing. We always enjoyed talking to you whenever we would meet. He was a strong man to endure what he did at the stone mill accident. We've always admired you and Herman as a couple and having your family as friends. Brenda and I have had both of our Covid shots, but, are careful about getting out, especially since Brenda has gone through so much with cancer treatment. My deepest, most sincere condolences to those that Herman has left behind on this Earth. I'll never forget the day that I first met Herman, nor the path that he put me on in life. It was Friday, July 22, 1988 and I was working the last day of a job that my coworkers and I were losing in a few hours due to changes in manufacturing processes. Herman walked right through the open overhead door of my work area, approached me and said, "I hear you are out of a job tonight. How would you like to come to work for me Monday?" I had no experience with limestone, but took a chance thanks to Herman's graciousness, and spent the next decade working for him and learning the trade. Almost 31 years have passed since that first meeting, and I'm still working in the limestone industry. I credit Herman 100% for my career path. May God bless his family. David A. Hicks
