Obituary of Norma Jean Hutchinson

Bedford – Norma Jean (Turner) Hutchinson, 87, died Friday August 17th at Dunn Memorial Hospital.

Born August 10, 1931 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Emery Clinton “Perc” Turner and Mable Holmes. She was a member of the graduating class of 1950 from Bedford High School. Norma married Kenneth E. Hutchinson on Feb. 13, 1954 and he preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 2006. She was of the Protestant faith. She worked at the Bedford Times Mail for 40 years, retiring in 1992. She was a reporter, city editor and was the first female managing editor.

Survivors one daughter, Kathy Hammel of Bedford; four sons, Kevin E. Hutchinson and wife Teresa, of Springville, Kent E. Hutchinson of Bedford and Davenport, Iowa, Kurt E. Hutchinson and wife Debbie of Bedford, and Kenny D. Hutchinson of Bedford; one brother-in-law, James Lee Hutchinson of Bedford; fourteen grandchildren: Trevis Earnest Hutchinson (Carla), Douglas Gene Hutchinson, Lucas David Hutchinson (Amy), Kevin Michael Hutchinson (Ashley), Steven Minett, Nicholas Minett, Christopher Hutchinson, Carrie Poole (Aaron), Casey Lemons (Brett), Amanda Hutchinson, Evan Hutchinson, Keeghan Hutchinson, Kevin Hutchinson and Catherine Hutchinson. Eleven great-grandchildren: Peyton, Trevin and Carter Hutchinson; Maylee and Owen Hutchinson; Jackson, Abram, Maggie and Lucy Poole; Gavyn and Owen Lemons.

Also surviving are long time close family friends Nancy Fox, Rob Mowry, Mary Johnson, Mary Margaret Stipp, Ray and Connie Snapp and families.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Roy Turner and Emery Carl Turner; and three sisters, Mary Louise Walls, Marguerite Kathleen Bugh, and Phyllis Ann Strunk; two sister-in-law, Jean Lambert and June Hutchinson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday August 23, 2018 in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Jeff Hauersperger officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2pm until 8 pm on Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to Norma J. Hutchinson Scholarship Fund at Bedford Federal Savings Bank.
