Obituary of Louis William Baker

Bedford – Louis William “Bill” Baker, 84, of Bedford, died at 2:45 pm on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington. Born June 14, 1931, in Bedford, he was the son of Herschel and Helen (Bromn) Baker. He was a graduate of Indiana University and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married MaryAnn Child on August 23, 1952 and she preceded him in death on April 19, 2011. Bill worked for nineteen years at the Lawrence County Court House as the Veteran’s Service Officer, eight years at the Times-Mail and for thirty-six years at the Thornton Memorial Boys Club where he served as Assistant Director and then Director. He was a member of the Oolitic Church of Christ, Boys Club, Bedford Boat and Sportsman’s Club, Gillen Post #33 American Legion and the Mitchell Masonic Lodge #228 F & AM. Survivors include a son, Scott Baker and wife, Dina, of Bedford; a daughter, Pam Kruse and husband, Doran, of Bedford; three grandsons, Devin and Dustin Kruse and fiancé, Keli, and Gavin Baker. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. We know dad touched many lives through his life long years of service to the community. Rest assured he loved and appreciated God, his family and all of his many friends. At his request, services will be private. He asked that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County, the White River Humane Society or I.U. Hospice House in Bloomington.
