Obituary of Charles Lee Godsey

Springville Charles Lee Godsey, 68, of Springville, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2006 at 11:15 am at the Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The son of Charles Beckam and Laura Alice Hall Godsey, he was born on October 12, 1937 in Springville. A graduate of Oolitic High School and Indiana University with both BS and MS degrees in Elementary Education, he was a fifth grade teacher for 34 years at South Elementary School in Pendleton, IN, retiring in 1993 to help his father on the farm. He coached fifth grade basketball teams for many years. An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed all sports and served as an official at numerous sports activities for Pendleton Heights High School. He enjoyed attending athletic events, fishing, gardening, and auto racing. He was a lifetime member of the Springville United Methodist Church where he served on many committees and participated in many programs, a 41 year member of Lions Club, a member of Lawrence County Retired Teachers Association, and a board member for Springville Cemetery West. He had belonged to NEA, ISTA, and SMEA, and was a member of a Lions Club Bowling Team in Anderson, IN. Mr. Godsey is survived by two sisters, Alice Wilson Peterson and her husband, Gary of Ft. Wayne and Judy Stephenson and her husband, Louis, Sr. of Bedford; eight nieces and nephews, Jay and Tina Wilson of Springville, Monty and Lois Wright of Williams, Louis Jr. and Jenny Stephenson of Bedford, Jim and Alice Ann Alesia of Ft. Wayne; six great nieces and nephews, Alex and Annie Alesia, Tyler and Whitney Wilson, Luke and Drew Charles Stephenson; a cousin, Paula Godsey (Gene) Lucas (who lived in the home for several years) of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Janet. Charles will be greatly missed be a host of relatives and friends. We love you and will miss you, Charlie! Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, March 3rd from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Keven Giggy officiating. Burial will follow in Springville West Cemetery. Friends may call from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm on Thursday, March 2nd and from 9:00 am until the hour of service on Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Pallbearers are: Jay Wilson, Louis Stephenson, Jr., Jim Alesia, Monty Wright, Louis Stephenson, Sr. and Gary Peterson. Honorary pallbearers are: Lois Wright, Alice Alesia, Tina Wilson and Jenny Stephenson. Donations Information The family requests that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the South Madison Community Foundation to establish an athletic scholarship in Charlies name.
