Obituary of Merla Craig
Williams - Rev. Merla Craig, 93, of Williams passed away at home on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at 11:10 pm.
He was born in Lawrence County on July 25, 1917 to Cloud and Carrie (White) Craig. Rev. Craig was an ordained minister for sixty-five years. He served at Unionville Baptist Church at Bloomington at the beginning of his ministry. He pastored the Owensburg Baptist Church for forty-seven years. He also served as interim pastor at Huron Baptist, Orleans Baptist, Petersburg Baptist and Silverville Missionary Baptist Church. Over the years, he performed countless weddings and funerals. He was a lifetime farmer and also drove a school bus for over thirty years at Fayetteville School and then for the North Lawrence Community School Corporation.
He is survived by his wife of seventy-one years, Wanda, and four children, a son, Albert (Patsy) Craig and three daughters, Gloria Rybolt, Darlene (Ernie) Hall and Ranee (Terry) Kelly. There are eight grandchildren, one step-grandchild, thirteen great grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, nine brothers and a grandson, Matt Lovvorn. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 11th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Edsel West officiating. Burial will follow in the Silverville Missionary Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 pm to 9:00 pm on Wednesday, November 10th and from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Thursday, November 11th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
