I only recently met Abe. My Daddy had knee replacement surgery this summer, only 2 weeks after being widowed so it was a rough time on all of us; Daddy was at Stonebridge for rehab with Abe. They ate meals together at the same table and passed the time talking about the War, growing old and the good ole country life. He made Daddy's stay better. By what I have read here about Abe it seems this is what he did for a lot of people - helped them have a better day. Abe would come to Dad's room every morning to tell him it was time for breakfast and everyday they had biscuits and gravy together. When I would bring Daddy home on Sunday for meals Abe would ask what was on the menu and then make his request! After clearing it with the nurses, I brought him BBQ ribs, homegrown greenbeans, shortcake and homemade ice cream on different occasions. He would put down the nets he was making to snack on what I had brought. His daughter Cindy was usually visiting at the same time I was and we would just let the men talk on the porch. Due to the weather, I could not bring Daddy to the funeral home but please know that your entire family is in our hearts and prayers. Please know that in the short time we knew Abe - he made a difference for us!
