Obituary of Walter Rainey
Bedford Walter Rainey, 79, of 3896 S. I Street, Bedford, IN, died at 5:05 pm on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at the Hospitality House in Bedford.
Born December 23, 1923 in Bedford, he was the son of William Melville and Harriett (Miller) Rainey. He married Mary Etta Fry on July 31, 1948 and she survives. He was a former co-owner of Rainey Brothers from 1953 to 1982 in Bedford and a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church. He was a veteran of WW II. While serving with the U.S. Army, he received the Purple Heart. He was very active with the farmers market in this area.
Surviving with his wife, Mary Etta, are three daughters, Anna L. Barber of Bremen, ME, Nancy E. Rainey of Lawrence Co., IN and Patricia S. Rainey of Independence, MO; four grandchildren, Casca Callan Hunter, Cody Caleb Hunter, Walter Henry Rainey and Melissa Ellen Barber; one brother, Virgil Rainey of Bedford; one sister, Lillian Woody of St. Cloud, FL. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy Jean Rainey; five brothers, George, Lawrence, Frank, Earl and Richard Rainey and four sisters, Louise Pendley, Alma Johnson, Mary Rainey and Vera Rainey. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Friday, September 5th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Bruce Becker officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Christian Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 4th and from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Friday, September 5th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion of Bedford.
