Obituary of Mary Etta Rainey

Bedford Mary Etta Rainey, 78, of 3896 South I Street, passed away at 4:09 pm on Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at Bedford Regional Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer. She was born on May 7, 1926 in Lawrence County to Cornelius Alexander and Ruby E. (Jackson) Fry. She married Walter Rainey on July 31, 1948 and he passed away on September 2, 2003. She was a homemaker and a gardener. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church and the Lawrence County Historical Society and was also active with the farmers market. During her wintertime in Florida she was a member of the Town & Country Club and the Senior Citizens Exercise Club of St. Cloud. Mary Etta was famous for her cooking, especially her relishes, fruit breads, preserves and persimmon pudding. Family was important to her. She also loved babies and children and enjoyed her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Bird watching, her cats, music and flower gardening gave her great pleasure. Surviving are three daughters, Anna L. Barber of Damariscotta, ME, Nancy E. Rainey of Silverville, IN and Patricia S. Rainey of Independence, MO, two sisters, Verna Younger of Franklin, IN, Lavon Fortner of Bedford, four brothers, Gerald and David Fry of Bedford, John Fry of Missouri, Meredith Fry of Chesterfield, IN, four grandchildren, Casca and Cody Hunter, Melissa Barber and Walter H. Rainey. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Dorothy J. Rainey, two sisters, Donna Hagan and Esther Fry (baby sister), one brother Morris Fry. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at 2:00 pm at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Bruce Becker officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Christian Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, August 6, 2004 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm and from 11:00 until the time of the service on Saturday at the mortuary.
