Obituary of Virgil Rainey

Bedford- Virgil Rainey, 88, of Bedford died at 8:37am at the Garden Villa Nursing Home in Bedford. Born February 28, 1920 in Bedford he was the son of Melvin and Harriett (Miller) Rainey. He married Ruth E. McCain on April 20, 1938 and she survives. He was co-owner of Rainey Brothers Scrap Yard in Bedford. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. He was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church, and a member of the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Survivors include his wife Ruth of Bedford; one son: Jack Rainey and his wife Linda of Bedford; two daughters: Judith Kaye Hardman and her husband David of Bedford, and Martha Gayle Kennedy and her husband Larry of Springville; 10 grandchildren: Bradley Joe Rainey, David Scott Rainey, Donald Keith Rainey, Brian Jon Rainey, Jacquline Ruth Rainey, Amber Lynn Branham, Sara Harrell, Deborah McCray, Craig Alan Hardman, Tracy Leigh Carron; 20 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; one sister: Lillian Woody of St. Cloud, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers: Walter, Lawrence, Richard, George, Earl, and Frank; four sisters: Louise Pendley, Mary E. Rainey, Alma Johnson, and Vera Baker his twin sister; four siblings in infancy; one grandchild: Shannon Rainey one great grandchild: Nicholas Rainey. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Bradley Joe Rainey and Pastor David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in the Gilgal Cemetery in Heltonville. Friends may call 4:00pm until 8:00pm Monday, June 30th at the Day and Carter Mortuary.
