Obituary of Reba Mae Raines
Bedford Reba Mae Raines, 97, of 1079 Fayetteville-Owensburg Road, Bedford, went to be with the Lord at 3:50 pm on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at her residence.
Born March 24, 1910 in Martin County, she was the daughter of Noah and Martha Elizabeth (Roberts) Baker. She married Henry Raines on March 24, 1924 and he preceded her in death on August 5, 1961. She was a homemaker, of the Pentecostal faith and a member of the House of Prayer Church in Fayetteville where she played the piano for over sixty years. She was featured on the WHAS-TV 11 Louisville Tonight Show where she appeared along with her brother on an oldest twins segment. At age 97, she played the harmonica with the Second Shift Bluegrass Band for the residents of Mitchell Manor Nursing Home.
Survivors include four sons, Wendell Raines and his wife, Adeline of Dunkirk, IN, Harold Raines and his wife, Joni, Charles David Raines and his wife, Sue, Bill Raines and his wife, Melody all of Fayetteville; six daughters, Martha Bolton, Geraldine Dunn and her husband, Jack and Elizabeth Lea Craig all of Fayetteville, Sue Murphy and Betty McGill both of Bedford, Lorena New and her husband, Daniel of Avoca; thirty-four grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, Douglas Bolton; three brothers, Dolphus, Millard and Willie (her twin) Baker; two sisters, Nellie Polk and Nannie Elizabeth Baker; one son, Donald Raines and one daughter, Margaret Raines. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 26th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with John Wisley officiating. Burial will follow in the House of Prayer Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, January 25th and from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday, January 26th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
