Obituary of James R. Hitchcock

Bedford James R. Hitchcock, 76, of 3321 Dixie Hwy., Bedford, died at 3:26 pm on Sunday, October 16, 2005 at the Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born October 7, 1929 in Bedford, he was the son of Joseph Roscoe and Mable E. (Sargent) Hitchcock Siegmund. He was a graduate of Bedford High School with the class of 1947 and a graduate of Indiana University. He attended numerous insurance and real estate schools. He was a licensed real estate broker and insurance agent doing business throughout Indiana and other states for over forty-five years. He owned and operated the Hitchcock Agency, Inc. until his retirement in 1995. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the Murat Temple, Scottish Rite, N.M.J., Valley of Indianapolis, Bedford Lodge #14 F & AM, La-Or-Ma Shrine Club, Gillen Post #33 American Legion, 40&8, National Box Car Assoc., Fraternal Order of Eagles #654, Loyal Order of the Moose and coached at the Boys Club. He was a life-long member of V.F.W. #1686 in Oolitic, Elks Lodge #826 and F.O.P. #94. Survivors include two sons, Randy Hitchcock and his wife, Becky of Bedford and Jeffrey Hitchcock and his wife, Joni of Sarasota, FL; six grandchildren, Riley, Ryan, Jordan, Jarren, Morgan and Jonathon; one sister, Betty Hendricks and her husband, James D. of Clearwater, FL; several nieces and nephews and his long-time companion, Evelyn Dalton of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary Edington; one brother, Herman Hitchcock and one grandson, Jackson Hitchcock. Funeral Information Graveside memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 25th at Cresthaven Memory Gardens with Rev. Richard Tallman officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, October 24th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Monday by members of Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM.
