Obituary of Willis Wayne Hawkins

Bedford Willis Wayne Hawkins, 90, of Bedford, died at 2:20 am on Monday, February 21, 2011, at Stonebridge Health Campus. Born May 21, 1920 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Elza Dalton and Edna (Stultz) Hawkins. He married Minnie Marie Coombs on December 10, 1944 and she survives. He was a self-employed building and concrete contractor and a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WW II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church where he was very instrumental in building the Life Center. He was a member of the V.F.W., Gillen Post #33 American Legion, member and past president of the Lawrence Co. Homebuilders Assoc. and was an avid fisherman. Survivors include his wife, Minnie, of Bedford; one son, Kent Hawkins of Bedford; two grandchildren, Justin Allen Hawkins and wife, Shauna, Misty Dawn Johnson and husband, Dustin of Bedford; four great grandchildren, Trace Allen and Lane Roger Hawkins, Jeslyn Kay and Dalton Wayne Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Evelyn Gentry; one daughter-in-law, Sandra Kay Hawkins. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, February 25th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Charlie Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 24th and from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Friday, February 25th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
