Obituary of Nancy Sue Otte

Bedford Nancy Sue (Hite) Otte, 69, of 2540 Mt. Pleasant Road, Bedford, went to be with the Lord at 2:40 pm on April 17, 2008 at her residence.Born March 22, 1939 in Huntington, IN, she was the daughter of Robert and Esta (Huffman) Hite. She graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1957 and obtained her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Ball State in 1961. She received her Masters Degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Remedial Reading in 1969 from Purdue University. Her family moved to Lawrence County in 1972 where she immediately went to work for the Title I program for North Lawrence School System as the administrator. She held that position for twenty-nine years. Nancy was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church for thirty-five years where she was a bell ringer and choir member. She was very active in the Bedford Altrusa Club, Ladies Guild and the church, the Lawrence County Community Concert Association and the Retired Teachers Association. She was awarded the Walk of Excellence for Lawrence County women. She was also involved with the Rotary Club, Cub Scouts and Monroe Lake Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. She was also one of the starting founders of the Youth for Christ in Lawrence County.Nancy married Ervin G. Otte on April 9, 1960 and he survives. Also surviving are two sons, Brian Otte and his wife, Deb of Bedford and Alan Otte and his wife, Kathy of Crandall, IN; six grandchildren, Jessika Otte of New Albany, IN, SPC Nathan Otte of Ft. Lewis, WA, Jennesy McConnell of Crandall, IN, Jason McConnell of Louisville, KY, Jennifer Shouse of Austin, IN, LCPL Ryan Shouse and his wife, Sara of Miramar-San Diego, CA; one great grandson, Marshall, of Austin, IN; one sister, Carolyn Dolby and her husband, Richard of Warsaw, IN; a brother-in-law, Joe Keller and his wife, Phyllis of Huntington, IN; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Martha; a nephew, Galen Dolby and a niece, Sarah Otte. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 20th at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Bedford with Pastor Paul Neuman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Christian Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, April 19th at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 1:00 pm until the hour of service on Sunday, April 20th at the Calvary Lutheran Church.
