Obituary of William W. Hicks

Bedford William W. Hicks, 81, of 1136 Avoca-Eureka Road, Bedford, died at 7:40 am on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at his residence. Born January 19, 1928 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Vernon O. and Ollie (Sproles) Hicks. He married Norma Jean on August 16, 1947 and she preceded him in death in 2000. He retired from G.E. in Bloomington. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army stationed at Ft Myer, VA where he served as an M.P. and Radio D.J. He served on guard duty at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery and was a member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Survivors include three sons, William V. Hicks and wife, Portia of Bedford, Tim Hicks and wife, Cathy of Ellettsville, Sammy D. Hicks and wife, Elizabeth of Bedford; one daughter, Carla Y. Siedl and husband, Kenneth of Bloomington; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Turner and Alice Hartman both of Bedford; one brother, Robert Hicks of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ruby Nelson; two brothers, Sam and Vernon O. Hicks, Jr. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, April 20th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Kenneth Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery with military rites accorded by Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Friends may call from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, April 19th and from 9:00 am until the hour of service on Monday, April 20th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
