Obituary of William Floyd Moffitt

Bedford On July 14, 2004, our wonderful husband, father, Papaw and Great-Paw went home to be with our Lord and Heavenly Father. He professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was of the Methodist denomination. He was a devoted husband to his wife Edna (Roy) Moffitt for 54 years. Born in 1926 in Achille, OK, he was the son of Huell L. and Florence Lillian (Coble) Moffitt. He was employed as a foreman at Roberts Brass of Mitchell for 25 years and retired as a toolmaker from E & M Tool Co. of Bedford in 1993. He was also employed for many years by the East 50 drive-in, the Indiana Theater and as manager of the Bedford drive-in. He served in the U.S. Army achieving the rank of Corporal. He was a member of the Cecil Martin Post #250 American Legion in Mitchell for 33 years and the Disabled American Veterans. Throughout his retirement years, Bill continued to be surrounded by his closed knit family who together enjoyed such activities as traveling, listening to country music, gardening and decorating his home at 22nd and M Street for the holidays. Bill will be remembered as a gentle giant who never met a man he didnt like. Surviving in the love of these memories are his wife, Edna; three daughters, Barbara Kay Smith and her husband, Wayne, Donna Gay Hignite-Moffitt and Jerry Hignite and Beverly Sue Moffitt; grandchildren, Erica Dawn Mitchell and her husband, Brent, Bobbi Jeanette Cummings, Autumn Renee Langley, Adam Mitchell Dawson and Amanda Rochelle Smith; step-grandchildren, Ryan, Evan, Aidan and Breanna Smith; great grandchildren, Samara Unity Lenning, Alexis Jade Mitchell, William Elijah Romello Langley, Kaylee Ryan Smith, Jackson Dakota Smith and Cannon Cade Parrish Smith; sisters, Vivian Richardson, Vera Thomas and Jewell Fay Holt; brother, Huell Ray Moffitt; step-brother, Roy Loyd and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Esther Porter, Imogene Swafford and Betty Ray Moffitt (at birth); step brothers, Alan Loyd and Cecil King and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 18th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor A. Wayne Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, July 17th and from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Sunday, July 18th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Pallbearers are Jerry Hignite, Brent Mitchell, Erica Mitchell, Bobbi Cummings, Autumn Langley, Adam Dawson, Amanda Smith and Dusty Miller. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of the Cecil Martin Post #250 American Legion.
