Obituary of Willie Tip Mills

Oolitic-Willie Tip Mills, 84, of Oolitic died at 5:01 am on Friday, May 14, 2010 at his residence. Born April 1, 1926 in Avoca, IN he was the son of Tip and Effie (Swafford) Mills. He married Anna Mitchell on November 17, 1947 and she survives. He was a retired supervisor for NSWC Crane. He was a WWII Navy veteran. He was a member of the Oolitic Baptist Church, a member of the La Or Ma Shrine Club, The American Patriot Lodge #750 of Oolitic, Oolitic VFW, and the American Legion Gillen Post #33. He was an IHSAA referee for 25 years. Surviving with his wife Anna are two daughters: Mary Lou New and her husband Barry of Bedford, and Jenny Day and her husband Kevin of Bedford; two grandsons: Brandon New and wife Cybil of Camby, IN, and Derek Day of Bowling Green, KY; one brother: Garvin Mills of Waukegan, ILL; two sisters: Joy Brown of Bedford, and Janice Beedie of Oolitic. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Marie Mills; two brothers: Frank Mills and Jan Mills; and one grandson: Dax New. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 18th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Richard Tallman and Rev. Millard Jones officiating, burial will follow in the Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Military rites will be accorded at the grave by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Friends may call from 2:00 pm until 8:00pm on Monday, May 17th and from 12:00 pm until the hour of service on Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
