Obituary of Marion M. Medlock

Bedford, IN Marion M. (Smith) Medlock, 77, of #9 Hillcrest Circle, Bedford, died on Wednesday night, May 3, 2006 at her residence, surrounded by her family. Born May 11, 1928 in Dearborn, Michigan, she was the youngest daughter of Howard Smith and Pearl (Richardson) Smith. Her family moved to Odon, IN, during her early teen years. Marion graduated from Odon High School. Following graduation, she worked at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane for several years. Marion married Walter Medlock, Jr., on April 17, 1949 and they shared 55 wonderful years together before Walter went to heaven on May 8, 2004. Marion and Walter were part owners of Hale's Carriage House Furniture before retiring in 1990. They were also active members of the Bedford Free Methodist Church for many years, teaching the senior high school Sunday school class for more than a decade. Marion was elected to the Bedford Free Methodist Church Board, becoming the first woman to hold that position. In addition, Marion was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Bedford before she and Walter moved to Fort Worth, Texas, in late 1998 to be with her daughters Martie Medlock Spaulding and Michelle Medlock Adams and their families. While in Texas, Marion worked in the television department of Kenneth Copeland Ministries (KCM) and later as a sales associate in the KCM bookstores. She and Walter were members of Eagle Mountain International Church while living in Texas. After Walter's death in May 2004, Marion returned to her beloved hometown of Bedford. At the time of her death, she was an active member of Stonegate Faith Center, pastored by her son-in-law Jan Spaulding and daughter Martie Spaulding. Marion loved life and lived each moment to its fullest. She was an avid Indiana University Basketball fan and a member of the Hoosier 100 Club. A former Women's City Golf Tournament Champion. Marion was a member of the Otis Park Ladies Club. She was also a very giving and compassionate person. Marion volunteered at the Bedford Regional Medical Center Gift Shop during the 1990s, and most recently worked tirelessly for Angel Food Ministries at Stonegate Faith Center in Lawrence County. Marion will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by two daughters, Martie Medlock Spaulding of Bedford, Michelle Missy Medlock Adams, of Forth Worth, TX, one son, Rob Medlock of Strongsville, OH, two son-in-laws, Jan Spaulding of Bedford, Jeff Adams of Fort Worth, TX, one daughter-in-law, Barb Medlock of Strongsville, OH, eight grandchildren, Mandy Ward of Bedford, Autumn Bailey of Southpoint, OH, Meghan Medlock, Jay Medlock, Mindy Medlock and Jon Medlock all of Strongsville, OH, Abby Leigh Adams and Allyson Michelle Adams both of Fort Worth, TX, four great grandchildren, Addyson Leigh Bailey, Alec Kade Bailey and Ashton Kole Bailey, all of Southpoint, OH and Christopher Walker Ward of Bedford and one sister, Marjorie Biggers of Clearwater, FL. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister, Muriel Barnes. Funeral Information Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. On Sunday, May 7th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. On Monday, May 8th at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastors Jan and Martie Spaulding officiating. Entombment will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
