Obituary of George McDermed

Bedford George McDermed, 76, of Bedford, died Friday, March 13, 2009 at his residence. Born September 4, 1932 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Lawrence and Pansy (Clouse) McDermed. He married Sharon Byers on June 29, 1957 and she preceded him in death on October 25, 1991. He was a retired engineering model maker for Westinghouse/ABB in Bloomington with fourty-one years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church, Gillen Post #33 American Legion, Westinghouse/ABB Veterans Assoc. and a graduate of Mitchell High School with the class of 1950. Survivors include a son, Larry McDermed and wife, Nancy of Champaign, IL; a daughter, Sherri Sowder and husband, Lanny of Simpsonville, SC; a sister, JoAnn Goldsby and husband, Leslie of Mitchell; six grandchildren, Cynthia (McDermed) Rohwedder and husband, Jason, Kevin McDermed, Kristy (McDermed) Hawn and husband, Patrick, Christopher, Kristin and Andrew Sowder; two great grandchildren, Jefferson and Julianne Hawn; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sisters, Maxine Polk, Betty Diehl and Rosalie Madison. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 25th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Charlie Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery with military rites accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Friends may call from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, March 24th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
