Obituary of Kenneth E. Baldwin

BedfordKenneth E. Baldwin, 85, passed away at 5:08 P.M. Friday, June 24th at the Westview Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on April 27, 1920 in Indianapolis, IN to James E. and Bertha M. (Murphy) Baldwin. He married Lovetta M. Mikels June 28, 1947 at the Bedford Free Methodist Church and she survives. He served in the Army during WW 2 as a medical technician grade 4 in the Phillipines and Japan, Manilla and Luzon. After returning from the war he was employed by General Motors Plant in Dayton, Ohio. As a boy, he attended the Hickory Grove Church. In youth, he was with CCC Organization helping build dams at Spring Mill Park in the 30s and shelter houses in various locations. He retired from the Bedford Foundry and Machine Shop and then from his own trucking business. He was an avid collector of rocks and mineral. He had been a member of the Lawrence County Rock Club. He was associated with Robert Job, who was a graduate of Rutgers College. They took trips to take mineral values of Indiana Limestone. He loved gardening and planting his flowers. I n addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Linda Brooking and her husband, Eddie of Oolitic, three sons and their wives, Gary and Karen Baldwin of Bedford, Dale and Sharon Baldwin and Dennis and Tina (Holley) Baldwin all of Norman, one son-in-law, Alton Qualkenbush of Bedford, nine grandchildren: Mike Brooking and his wife, Christie of Martinsville, Lisa Parsley and her husband, Jason, Michelle Hicks and her husband, Brian, Michael Baldwin and his wife, Megan all of Bedford, Mendy, Whitney, Elizabeth, and Tiger Baldwin, and Nathalie Holley all of Norman; four great grandchildren, Cole and Victoria Brooking of Martinsville, Megan and Mariah Hicks of Bedford, one sister, Mildred Bailey of Heltonville and a niece, Donna Carner of Oolitic and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Danny J. Baldwin, a daughter Trena M. Qualkenbush, a brother, Berlin Murphy and a sister, Delphia Clements. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 28th from the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Ronnie McClain officiating. Burial will follow in the Mundell Christian Church Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, June 27th from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Day & Carter Mortuary. Pallbearers will be the grandsons: Mike Brooking, Michael Baldwin and Jason Parsley, also, Harold Gregory, Randy Arthur and Alton Qualkenbush. Honorary pallbearers will be the Heltonville Veterans with the Military services accorded at the grave by the American Legion Gillen Post #33. The funeral procession will pass by and pause at the Veterans Memorial in Heltonville of which Kenny and Lovetta and family assisted in establishing. View Video Tribute
