Obituary of Mary Jane Henry

Bedford Mary Jane Henry, 78, of 411 Shawnee Lane, Bedford, left peacefully at 8:55 pm on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford following a thirteen year illness. Born April 5, 1926 in Tennessee, she was the daughter of Omar and Lillian Thompson. Mary Jane was the loving wife of Robert Bob Henry whom she married in 1947. Mary Jane was a beautiful woman who loved to shop for antiques and was active in Tri-Kappa Sorority, the Bedford Dance Club, Otis Park Ladies Golf League and Bedford Little Theater. She was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church. Prior to their move to Bedford in 1963, Mary Jane and Bob were instrumental in forming the first Jack Lowther football junior league in Detroit, MI. This league provided playing opportunities for thousands of boys and cheerleading for hundreds of young girls. Mary Jane also formed a baseball league for pre-Little League boys in Detroit which was named after her nickname, the Dinky League. While living in Detroit, she worked for Arthur Murray Dance Studios, Paramount Pictures Studios and modeled in worldwide hair styling shows. After moving to Bedford, she worked for WBIW radio station for eleven years and then at the Citizens National Bank where she retired in 1991. Surviving with her husband, Robert Bob are two sons, Doak Robert Henry and his wife, Jane of Bloomington and Dain W. Henry of Bedford; three grandchildren, Doak M. Henry, Heather L. Muehlhaus and her husband, Brian of Bloomington and Randi Rashelle Henry of Franklin, IN and one sister-in-law, Clara Thompson of Roseville, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, William Thompson, Omar Sugar Thompson, Jr., Charles Thompson and Jerry Thompson; three sisters, Lois Thompson, Jacqueline Myers and Camille Holzhausen. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 2nd from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Mark McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, April 1st at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
