Obituary of Gathis W. Martin

BEDFORDGathis W. Martin, 76, of 441 Sowders Road, Bedford, died on Thursday, April 3rd, 2003 at his residence. Born July 15th, 1926 in Monroe County, he was the son of Clyde and Cora (Hillenburg) Martin. He married Betty L. Sowders on March 25th, 1946 and she survives. He was retired after working for several Limestone companies in Bloomington. He was a member of Calvary Mission Church of Chapel Hill and the Quarry Workers Union. Survivors include his wife, Betty; two daughters: Beverly Jordan of Bedford and Pam Bing of Bloomington; one granddaughter, Angie Elkins of Bloomington; two brothers: Kelsie Martin of Bedford and James H. Martin of Bedford; 2 sisters: Mary Hector of Bloomington and Naomi Norman of Greenwood, IN and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Carolyn Sue Martin and one sister, Ruby Sparks. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 6th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Greg Eads officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 pm till 8:00 pm on Saturday, April 5th at Day & Carter Mortuary.
