Bedford – Carol J. (Padgett) Rainey, 78, of Bedford, passed away at 8:57 am on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at her residence.

Born July 6, 1946, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of William and Ruth Evelyn (McMahan) Padgett. She married John Rainey on July 11, 1964, and he preceded her in death on December 28, 2007. She retired from K-Mart in 2014. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church.

Survivors include three children, Rhonda Jackson and husband, Perri, of Greencastle, Wes Rainey and wife, Kim, of Heltonville, and Rebecca Harding and husband, Ray, of Bedford; grandchildren, Haley Bowersock and husband, Justin, Adam Lane and companion, Allie Combs, Jessalyn Armes and husband, David, Alicia Price and husband, Jon, Mikaela Flynn and husband, Mike, Rhett Rainey, Emily Chapman and husband, Joe; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Brenda Harrell and husband, James, of Seymour; 3 brothers, David Padgett and wife, Rita, of Westport, Kenneth Padgett, of Indianapolis and Keith Padgett and wife, Phyllis, of Bedford; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 19th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Adam Strauser officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 18th and from 9:00 am until the service hour on Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
