To all of Melvin's family, I was so sorry to hear of Melvin's passing. When I was a teenager I babysat Teresa, Melvin, Stacy & Tina and they were such sweet kids, I loved them as if they were my own family. Melvin was always well-behaved and fun to be with. As they got older, it was harder to keep in touch, but I still did whenever possible, they were like my own family to me and they never forgot me as I could never have forgotten any of them. My heart aches for all Melvin's family & friends and we will all feel his loss deeply. I am keeping all his family and friends in my thoughts & prayers and so grateful to have known Mel, he was a sweet little boy who grew up to be a wonderful man, and I was so proud of him. God bless all his family & friends at this painful time, especially James and Barbara and all their family, Teresa and her family, Stacy's family and Tina and her family, as well as Mary's Cobb family. Love & hugs to all of you.

Like so many kids who grew up in Oolitic, Melvin and his family were well known and respected by a ton of town folks. He and I were in the same class all through grade school and high school, and at times, he would walk me home and have me laughing the entire way with his charming sense of humor. Mel took me to the Prom and, even though neither one of us had the courage to dance, we still had such fun, and even more fun at the bowling alley for the after prom. He was a true friend for life and an absolute gentleman through the years. We will always miss him, but we must take comfort in knowing that his passing this isn't "goodbye:...it is "see you later, Mel". Heaven is a wonderful reward for good people like him. Sympathy to his family.

So sad to hear of Melvin having cancer & of his passing. The Olivers & my family were neighbors when we were all young, & Oolitic was a good place to grow up. Our parents & older neighbors taught us how to care about each other and get along. We all went to school & church together, too, & we learned the value of community. So, even though our families have lost touch, my heart goes out to you all. Melvin was a good guy who was kind & helped everyone. I am thankful for his service to our country. He always protected us all. I am sad right along with each of you, & I am praying God will make His peace & presence known to you all.
