Obituary of Gary Lee Blackwell

Gilbertsville, KY - On July 10th Gary Lee Blackwell, 71, of Gilbertsville, KY left this world to be with his heavenly Lord and Savior. Born August 2, 1952, in Bedford, IN, to Leonard and Elizabeth (Norris) Blackwell. He married Carol Gage on December 4, 1971, in Bedford. He retired after 30 years of service at General Motors in Bedford as a millwright welder. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Sons of the American Legion and the First Christian Church of Bedford. He attended the Grand Rivers Baptist Church in Grand Rivers, KY. Gary adored his family and friends and delighted in being a papa to his three grandchildren. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and boating, riding his motorcycle and traveling. He loved being a host to family and friends, making homemade ice cream on birthdays and napping with his Boston Terrier, Moe. Gary leaves behind a loving wife, of 52 years, Carol, of Gilbertsville, KY; their son, Brent (Tara) Blackwell of Greenwood, IN and three amazing grandchildren, Elisabette "Bette", Haley and Asa "Jet" Blackwell. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 15th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Mark Gill officiating. Burial will follow in the Beech Grove Cemetery in Bedford. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, July 14th and from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. A Masonic service will be at 6:00 pm on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Riley Hospital for Children, the Alzheimer's Assoc. or your local humane society.
