Obituary of Charles L. Crane

Bedford – Charles L. Crane, 71, of Bedford, passed away at 12:25 pm on Friday, March 15, 2024, at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital. Born December 8, 1952, in Bedford, he was the son of Charles and Icey (Gilpin) Crane. He married Rita Padgett and she preceded him in death. He later married Debra McBride on September 28, 1991, and she survives. He worked and retired from coal mining, operating the wash plant. He was a member of the Oolitic Community Church. As an avid hunter, he enjoyed being outside and in the woods. He loved I.U. basketball, his family and was a proud papaw of his grandkids. You could always find him in the bleachers attending his grandkids sporting events. Survivors include his wife, Debra, of Bedford; a son, Matthew Crane and wife, Toni, of Bedford; a daughter, Shelby Crane and husband, Michael Everroad, of Bedford; grandchildren, Emma Crane, Ethan Crane, Madison Everroad, Haylie Crane, Bryant Crane and wife, Marley and their children, Audree and August; a brother, Dave Crane, of Bloomington; brothers-in-law, Floyd Junior Edwards and Paul Baker; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, two sisters, Carolyn Banks and Betty Baker; a niece, Angela Hofman. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 20th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Millard Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Leatherwood Cemetery.
