Obituary of Joan Wininger

Mitchell-Joan (Wellman)Wininger, 82, of Mitchell went to join her husband and both sons in Heaven on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at her residence. Born March 17, 1941, in Daviess County, IN, she was the daughter of Roy Richard and Grace Irene (Hankins) Wellman. She married Morris Wininger on March 26, 1960, and he preceded her in death on July 29, 2013. Joan was a graduate of Paoli High School with the class of 1959 and had taken correspondence courses through LaSalle College and retired as a bookkeeper for Stone City Products. Joan lived in Orange County until 1963 when she and Morris moved to Lawrence County. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include, a granddaughter, Jakayla Wininger (Doug Saladee); a sister, Jane Houchin; a brother-in-law, Harlan (Gail) Wininger; three sisters-in-law, Joan Ray, Marilyn Wininger, and Arletta Hughes; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Steve Wininger and Chris Wininger, a sister, Betty Lamon, and two brothers, Richard K. Wellman and Donald Lee Wellman. Graveside services will be conducted at the Stampers Creek Cemetery at 2:00pm on Thursday, February 1st with Pastor David Ferry officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 until 1:00pm on Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
