Obituary of Ray Leon Johnson

Bedford – Ray Leon Johnson, 83, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023. Born April 18, 1940, in Monroe Co., he was the son of Lloyd and Dorothy W. (Starbuck) Johnson. He married Crystal Johnson and she survives. He worked for Glen Holt Volkswagen in Bloomington, Wanroy Motors in Greenwood, Gigante Volkswagen Indianapolis, and College Mall Volkswagen in Bloomington before opening his shop, Johnson Service in Bloomington. He later worked for Indiana University in the electrical department. Ray enjoyed working on VW’s, taking care of the lawn and woods, playing with his dogs, Ceely, Bernie and Dora. Survivors include his wife, Crystal, of Bedford; children, Joseph Ray Johnson (Triana), of Bloomfield, Ruth Ann Inabnitt, Boulder City, NV, Ronda G. Ramsak (Robert), of Marrero, LA, and Jane S. Lyons (James), of Unionville, IN; nine grandchildren, Tiffany and Eric Ray Johnson, Matthew Freeman, Jamie Stephens, Nicholas, Chandler and Grace Ramsak, Josh Lyons and Charlee Polley; eight great-grandchildren, Devon Cecil, Ava Rae Johnson, Otis Freeman, Caroline Freeman, Rosetta Polley, Ada Polley, Otto Lyons, and Sophie Wells; three sisters, Wilma Houshour (Howard), of Columbus, IN, Peggy McKnight (Homer), and Joyce Shields (Danny), all of Bloomington; a brother, William R. Johnson (Mary), of Largo, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents. No visitation or services are planned.
