Obituary of Dr. John Everett Fraley

Dr. John Everett Fraley, 74, of Starke, FL and Bedford, IN, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023, in Florida. Born August 5, 1948, in Columbia, SC, he was the son of Everett Knox and Martha Carolyn (Derrick) Fraley. He married Paula Louise (Turner) Nobles on May 13, 2001, and she survives. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1970, then attended Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston where he received his MD degree in 1974. He participated in the U.S. Navy Healthcare Professional Scholarship Program beginning in 1973 and was commissioned a Lieutenant USNR upon graduation from medical school. He was a physician serving at various duty stations for the U.S. Navy until retiring on October 1, 2001. After retirement from the Navy, he joined the Veterans Healthcare Administration as a staff physician until retirement in December 2013. He was a member of the American Legion in Keystone Heights, FL and a member of the DAV of Florida. He enjoyed toy train collection and model railroading, small engine repair and collecting, woodworking, antique tractor collecting, horse camping and cruising. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Starke, FL and attended Dive Christian Church in Bedford. He was a good father, husband and friend who served his Lord and country to the best of his ability. Survivors include his wife, Paula, of IN; a son, John Fraley and wife, Konomi, of Washington; a daughter, Caroline Blankenship, and husband, Will, of Middleburg, FL; five grandchildren, Lauren Cheyenne, Braxton Cordell, Averie Lynn, Gracie and John; a brother, Joe Fraley and his wife Kathy of Elgin, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-son, Ben Nobles. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 18th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Joe McAdams officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
