Obituary of Brenda Kay (Southern) Cain

Bedford – Brenda Kay (Southern) Cain, 80, of Bedford, peacefully went to be with the Lord at 2:15 am on Sunday, January 1, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. Born November 29, 1942, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Eugene and Leota (Deckard) Southern. She graduated from Needmore High School in 1959. She married Charles Pitman in 1961 and he preceded her in death. She later married Clarence “Buster” Cain on July 24, 1969. They were married 50 years until his death in 2019. She had worked in the laundry department for Indiana University, at RCA, she cleaned houses, and later was a homemaker. Brenda loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved Jesus and listening to gospel music. She had recently moved to Stonebridge Health Campus where she loved to play bingo and make new friends. Survivors include children, Angie (Steve) Gilbert, Tami (Rob) Downham, Ron (Lora) Cain, and Mike Cain; nine grandchildren, Brandon (Amanda) Hedrick, Ariene (Josh) Boren, Kelsey (Micheal) Downham, Erin (DJ) Kirkman, Ashley (Sam) Kirkman, Jessica (Sean) Snyder, Corey Gilbert, Megan (Peter) Berry, and Kristin Cain; eight great-grandchildren, Gavin Cain, Darrian Cain, Samuel Snyder, Brye Lewis, Leota Kirkman, Paris Anderson, Ashton Anderson, and Zandar Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, grandparents, Acie and Cloie Deckard. She will be dearly missed by her family, but we find comfort in knowing she is with her Heavenly Father and reunited with her husband. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, at the Valley Mission Church of the Nazarene. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 6th at the church with Pastor Billy Brim officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Hill Cemetery.
