Obituary of Michael Layne May

Bedford – Michael Layne May, 75, of Bedford, passed away at 8:42 am on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital. Born August 6, 1947, in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Bernard and Phyllis (Turner) May. He married Margit Beck on April 5, 1972, and she survives. He retired in 2009 as a fork truck driver for General Motors and was in the auto business for almost 44 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and U.A.W. Local #440. Michael loved his kids, grandkids, IU, Indianapolis Colts, fishing, football and wrestling Survivors include his wife, Margit, of Bedford; Three sons, Robert L. (Tina) May, of Oklahoma City, OK, Bernard (Jessyka) May, of Evansville and Blake May of Bedford; two daughters, Tiffany (Shane) Collingsworth, of Mitchell and Mary Robinson, of Mishawauga, IN; nine grandchildren; Eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday December 13, 2022, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 on Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary and 11:00 am until the service on Tuesday at the Church. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by American Legion Gillon Post #33. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
