Obituary of Harold R. Smith

Bedford – Harold R. Smith, 84, of Bedford, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Baptist Health Hospital in New Albany, IN. Born May 7, 1938, in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Otha and Ruth K. (Stewart) Smith. He was a farmer and owned Smith Iron & Metal Company in Bedford. He was always a hard worker and would help anyone. He started junking at 14 and even ran his own parts store. He was a member of the Eagles, Moose Lodge, and Bedford Boat and Sportsman’s Club. Survivors include two children, Bambi Aliano (Steve), of Bedford and Melanie Fulford (Chris), of Linton; two grandchildren, Trey Bedwell, of Dugger and Lauren Bedwell, of Linton; his long-time companion, Shirley Lagle; two sisters, Frieda Brugger, of Manassas, VA, and Ruby Gayle Chastain, of Bedford; his two dogs, Kilo and Girlee, who he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Chase Aliano. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Monday, September 26th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. He will be laid to rest next to his grandson, Chase, in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, September 25th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
