Bedford – Phyllis E. Kinder, 93, of Bedford, passed away at 10:52 pm, on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Stonebridge Health Campus. Born February 25, 1929, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Dwight and Virginia Beatrice (Earley) Prow. Phyllis grew up helping in the family business, a restaurant on ‘J’ Street called “Javy’s Sandwich Shop. She graduated from Bedford High School in 1947, where she was a cheerleader. After graduation, she began a 60-year career as a secretary in the limestone industry beginning with Edinger Stone Company and ending at 80 years of age with Evans Stone Company, always a very dedicated employee. She married Jess Kinder on February 28, 1954. Jess was very involved with auto racing and that became Phyllis’s passion as well. They owned an auto mechanics shop called Kinder Tune-Up and served the community for many years until Jess’s death in 2007. They were very active in their church, First Baptist of Bedford, and served many years as Sunday School teachers, on different committees and sang in the choir. Phyllis received her 50-year certificate a few years ago for service to her church which she loved so much. Survivors include two sisters, Mary Elkins, and Vicky Woody (Jon), of Bedford, who she helped raise after the death of their mother; nieces and nephews, Blaine Parker, (Miles) and Jonathon Woody (Lynlee), all of Bedford, Alecia Woody (Marc), of Greenwood, Preston Elkins (Ruth Ann), of Bedford, Greg Elkins (Tracy), of Bedford, Jerry Prow, of Princeton, and Sherry Prow, of Georgia.
