Obituary of Rowena D. Mitchell

Bedford – Rowena D. Mitchell, 89, of Bedford, passed away at 5:45 am on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. Born December 3, 1932, in Martin Co., she was the daughter of Cecil and Viola (Simmerman) Owens. She married Noel Gene “Jake” Mitchell on July 14, 1950, and he preceded her in death on February 24, 2013. She had been an aide at Shawswick School and Madden School for several years. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ, the Quarry Quilters Club, and Air Streamers Club. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends. Survivors include a son, Mark Mitchell and wife, Denise, of Morgantown; three daughters, Jennifer Shirley and husband, Nelson, of Bedford, Jill Brandon and husband, Parkes, of Nashville, TN, and Penny Cobb and husband, John, of Springville; grandchildren, Molly Mitchell, Christina Thompson, Andrea Rainey, Joseph Brandon (Jaime), David and Michael Brandon, Jordan Cobb, Allie Evans (Damian), Adrea Simmerman (Justin Smith), Alaina Shirley (Anthony Zrebiec), and Alex Shirley (Ashley) great-grandchildren, Gwennyth Thompson and fiancé; Damian Fetscher, Aidan and Katie Thompson, Marea Enochs and fiancé Kris Earl, Lilly Enochs, Joslynn Chastain, Josiah Cobb, Madalynn Cobb, Elliott Evans, Jacob Simmerman, Jacey Simmerman, and Madison Smith; a brother, Jerome (Margie) Owens; a sister-in-law, Sharon Mitchell; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister Vergilla Roberts. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 8th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Clovis and Dennis Parsley officiating. Burial will follow in the Williams Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, March 7th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. The family requests that all attendees wear masks.
