Dear Nancy, Kenny, and Melissa,
My earliest memories of cousin Kenneth Dale were when we were little boys at Grandpa Claude Speer’s house. Kenneth Dale loved to be around his grandpa and counted it a good day when they spent time together.
When he was little, he would run over to the Speer house and check for fresh truck tracks in the driveway to see whether grandpa was still at home or had gone to town. Kenneth Dale was driving a Ford tractor by the time he was five years old during haying time. By sitting on the transmission, he could barely reach the clutch, but when he had to stop, one of the men ran over and pressed on the brake.
Kenneth Dale always knew he wanted to be a farmer and was able to achieve that goal. He was a good farmer, too. He was cheerful, hard-working, and dependable.
Even though I live many miles away and in a different state, whenever I went back to Indiana, I always enjoyed visiting with my cousin. May he now rest in peace.
