Obituary of Bernice Leonard

Bedford Bernice Leonard, 93, of Bedford, died Thursday morning at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she had been receiving excellent care for over five years. Born March 15, 1912 in a log cabin in Judah, IN, she was the daughter of Marion and Emma Brinegar. She married Thurman Leonard on January 30, 1950 and he preceded her in death on March 13, 1978. Bernice and her brothers George and Ivan owned and operated Brinegars Confectionary at 1429 J St. from 1935 to 1946. She and her husband Thurman Leonard owned Leonards Drive In Restaurant from 1951 to 1963. She was a member of the First Church of God. Bernice had many friends and was a very special sister. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Ivan H. Brinegar and one sister, Eva Jones. Survivors include one brother, George A. Brinegar and one sister, Mary Criswell both of Bedford; two nieces, Mrs. David (Peri) Combs of Evansville and Mrs. Lyman (Suzie) Benner of Franklin, IN; three nephews, Aaron J. Brinegar of Bedford, Stephen A. Brinegar of Carmel and Phillip Brinegar of Indianapolis. Funeral Information Services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 19th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Floyd Brick officiating. Entombment will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 11:00 am until the hour of service at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
