Obituary of Claude Duane Helton
Owensburg Claude Duane Helton, 75, of Owensburg, IN, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, entered into that peaceful rest to wait for the return of our Savior, Jesus Christ at 2:15 pm on Monday, September 14, 2009 at Westview Nursing and Rehab.
Born October 2, 1933, in Orange Co., he was the son of Charles Dewey and Maree (Taylor) Helton. He was a loving and caring husband to his wife Donna Fields whom he married in 1952. As a Christian, Duane worshipped for many years at the Central Church of Christ. He worked as a civil servant at NWSC Crane until his retirement in 1985. He was a published poet, a gifted artist and a skilled wood craftsman. Duane never met a stranger and was a friend to all who knew him. He was a member of the Lawrence Co. Genealogy Society, the American Poets Society and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Donna of Owensburg; one son, Jim Helton of Bedford; his blood brother, Bill Boruff of Rising Sun, IN; brother-in-law, Buddy Fields, sister-in-law, Ann Fields both of Owensburg; son-in-law, Bob Bex and his wife, Patty; sister-in-law, Beulah Helton of Bedford; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Robin Bex, Jen Bex, Caci Helton and Nate Helton. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Claudia J. Bex in 1998; a brother, Dewey Arthur Helton; brother-in-law, Bryant Fields; father and mother-in-law, Dennie and Lillian Fields; great nephew, Tyler Fields and great niece, Kim Todd. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:30 pm on Thursday, September 17th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Wilbur Fields and Jack Beyers officiating. Cremation will follow.
