Obituary of Marvin D. Thrasher

Bedford – Marvin D. “Toby” Thrasher, 79, of Bedford, passed away at 6:48 am on Monday, November 1, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Born August 1, 1942, in Fairborn, OH, he was the son of Marshall and Emma (Quigley) Thrasher. He served in the U.S. Army for eighteen years, retiring with the rank of Captain. During his career, he served in Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand. While stationed at Fort Knox, he married Carol Rodman in 1962 and the family traveled to various stations across the country from Hawaii to North Carolina. Marvin held many positions in the Army, including drill sergeant, armor officer, pilot of Huey helicopters and airplanes, and company commander. His favorite jobs while in the service were flying and parachuting. After retirement, Marvin remained active in the Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM where he earned 50-year pins there and in the York Rite and Scottish Rite. He was also a Shriner and baptized a Christian in 1981. Marvin’s greatest loves were raising his girls, spending time with family and friends, camping, traveling, reading, and watching films. Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Bedford; daughters, Paula (Ritchie) Tirey, of Bedford, Tammy (David) Barrett, of Fayetteville, GA, and Sarah Thrasher, of Indianapolis; a granddaughter, Jencie (Casey) Brown, of Ellettsville and their sons, Lincoln and Callen; a step-grandson, Bryan (Stephanie) Barrett, of Valley Green, AL and their children, Skylar, Austin, Alexander, and Ashton; his sisters, Pam and Linda; a brother, Donnie. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Marty; a sister, Cathy; a daughter, Tina (in infancy). Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 6th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Friday, November 5th and from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. A Masonic Service will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Friday by members of Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. All attendees should be fully masked.
