John was a wonderful man. I remember him for the help he gave me when he served as County Recorder. I remember him well when he and Al Walker called Stonecutter basketball games on WBIW. I truly will miss his presence, his sense of humor, and his decency. He always will be a great soul and his loss will be felt by many of us. He did so much for so many in Lawrence County.

Jean and family, so sorry to hear of John’s death.
Since I never lived near Bedford after High School, my memories are of John in High School. He seemed to always try to make people happy! In reading all the comments about his life in his obituary, this seemed to continue. What a legacy!
My condolences for your loss! I know he will be sadly missed!

To Jean and the Williams family … T.J. and I send our deepest sympathies to all. We have thought of John often over the years and reminisce of the wonderful and fond memories we have. He was a dear friend and mentor to T.J. starting his professional career in City government. And to me as a young newlywed moving to a new city far away from home, he always welcomed me with that big smile and a hug of comfort. He meant the world to us both. Know our thoughts and prayers of peace are with all of you as you celebrate the life of a wonderful man. With Love ~ Tammy & T.J. Fountaine

Our family is so sorry for your loss. We pray that you find comfort knowing he made a huge impact on the community and everyone he met.
We always loved listening to him on the radio, he had a great voice. We laughed about him calling my sister “Baker” during a basketball game, he finally caught himself and said “her Mother was a Baker, she is an Owens.” They always got a great chuckle from that.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

John was a force of nature, he loved people and at times went to great lengths to entertain and/or help people. I remember when he was County Clerk and License Branch Manager, also participated in Little Theater. There wasn't much he would not do and he enjoyed his life. The world could use a lot more people like John, but alas, they are hard to find. Jean and Family, I'm so sorry for your loss, but John was well loved by almost everyone who knew him and his memory will live on for a long, long time. He had a big heart and was always trying to make things better for someone. We are lucky to have known him. He is probably greeting a lot of old friends in Heaven now. Thank you all for sharing him with all of us. God Bless you!
