Obituary of Archie Glen Rankin

Bedford – Archie Glen Rankin, 86, of Bedford, passed away at 5:00 am on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at his residence. Born September 3, 1934 in Forest, LA, he was the son of James Archie and Ina Mae (Kennedy) Rankin. He married Cecilia Hawkins on January 21, 1961 and she survives. Archie was a pipefitter/operator for Indiana Gas Company and a member of Avoca Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Cecilia of Bedford, three children: Robert D. Mitchell and wife Peggy of Bedford, Melody Courtney and husband Scott of Cary, NC and Bill Rankin and wife Sandy of Columbus, IN; 10 grandchildren: Lindsay Fletcher and husband Daniel of Houston, TX, Lacey Mitchell of Houston, TX, Jordan Mitchell and wife Amy of Roselle, IL, Lauren Anderson and husband Zack of Bloomington, Brooke Spires and husband Justin of Bedford, Blair Coulter and husband Jimmy of Shoals, Meredith Courtney and Matthew Courtney, both of Cary, NC, Kristen Rankin of Indianapolis, Benjamin Rankin and Seth Rankin, both of Columbus, IN; 15 great grandchildren: Jude, Knox, Luke and Logan Fletcher, Jack, Evelyn and Nathan Mitchell, Alexys Thralls, Lennyn Anderson, Kennedy Coulter, Leo Coulter, Elliott Anderson, Colton, Chloe and Connor Spires. Archie was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Christine Thames, a brother, James P. Rankin and a sister, Betty Lou Finch. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday May 21st in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Lewis Seward officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 20th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
