Obituary of James E. Henson

Bedford – James E. Henson, 74, of Bedford, passed away at 7:16 pm on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital. Born October 12, 1946, in Detroit, MI, he was the son of Kern and Edna (Davis) Henson. He married Wanda Hensley on June 20, 1970 and she preceded him in death on August 10, 2018. He was a retired electronics technician for NSWC Crane and had worked several years at TriStar. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the East Oolitic Community Church and Lawrence Co. Vietnam Veterans. Survivors include three children, Jimmy Henson, Cindy Bower and husband, Mark, all of Bedford, Travis Henson, of Bloomington; four grandchildren, Levi Meadows, Bransyn Henson, Braydon Henson, and Bryce Bower; three step-grandchildren, Sami Zollman, Macie Smith-Brown, Maddie Smith Turner and their mother, Laurie Staver; a brother, Rick Henson and wife, Carolyn, of Greenwood; a sister-in-law, Janet Henson, of Bedford; several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother, Gerry Henson. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 pm on Sunday, December 27th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Millard Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Gilgal Cemetery with military rites accorded by Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, December 26th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. In accordance with CDC guidelines, masks and social distancing are required.
