I worked for Gene three summers at his root beer stand in the 1970's. He was a wonderful man, always in a great mood with a beautiful wife and a smile on his face. He was an Anderson institution. Gene's Root Beer was and still is an incredible place with great food and beautiful carhops that bring that same smile Gene always had to everyone who visits his restaurant's face. My condolences to the family. I have many happy memories of the years I worked for Mr. Moorman, may he rest in peace.

With Gene and Andy I caught my first fish ever. We were on his pontoon on Morse Reservoir (Cicero).. It was only about a 3 inch blue gill but it was my 1st!! Later that day I caught a 10 inch small mouth. Gene took Andy and I to Ivan's farm on many occasions. They taught me to ride a mini bike. Even though the first time I crashed. Now I ride a Harley. What I'm trying to say is Gene introduced me to things my parents could not. I will forever look up to him. God bless

Blessings to the family. I first remember Gene having Root Beer with my Dad after school was out for the summer in 1966. When I was about 10 in the local Bakery in Alexandria, he came in and sat and chatted with my Mom and all 8 kids, he bought us all a cookie. Of course he was always at Junior Bakers Auto (junk yard) and every kid in town was there getting parts for their cars. You could find him after work at Harold Lawrence's, The Curve Inn having a sandwich and a cold one. Donny Parker usually right behind him both always had a deal of some sort goin on. Something about a guy who had a dog for sale?? . Gene was well liked and and returned his friend ship to almost everyone he met. Many years later I worked at the Elks in Alex and he did his part to keep the doors open. Whether it was a quick drink or dinner with friends and serving his time through the club he was always ready to chip in. He made an impression on my life in many ways, and so has his legacy of the Root Beer stand. Wouldn't miss eating the Spanish dogs or buying our tree there for the last 25 years .
