Obituary of Morris Chester Shively
Bedford – Morris Chester (Chet) Shively, 94, of Bedford, passed away at 11:30 pm on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital.
Born October 25, 1926 in Mt. Summit, IN, he was the son of James (J.B.) and Mary (Chambers) Shively. He married Marilyn Spires in 1981 and she survives. He was a career military officer serving for twenty-three years in the U.S. Navy during WW II, the Korean and the Vietnam Wars and retired in 1968 as Chief Petty Officer. He was a member of the Gillen Post #33 American Legion and Fleet Reserve Association and was an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed gardening, reading, and was of the Protestant faith. He was an avid IU basketball and Cincinnati Reds baseball fan. He was a Kentucky Colonel, presented to him by his dear friend, Colonel Harold Milburn, retired U.S. Army. Chet was a great husband, dad and papaw.
Survivors include his wife Marilyn, of Heltonville; five sons, Lee Andrew Shively and wife Margie of Union, KY, Timothy James Shively of Treasure Island, FL, Randy Parker of Olympia, WA, Todd Parker and wife Jessica of Waynesville, MO, Brad Parker and wife Sandi of Winterville, NC; fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Shively and wife Mary Alice of Nashville, IN, one sister, Mary Lou Dye of New Castle, Indiana and a daughter-in-law, Debra Shively of Colorado. Morris was preceded in death by; his parents, James and Mary Shively, a son, Ricky Morris Shively, four sisters, Frances Courtney, Marie Willis, Barbara Hedrick and Ruth Heiny, five brothers, Sonny (Jim), Harry, Robert, Ralph and Alan Shively one brother-in-law, Cloyd Dye.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2020 in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Brad Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Visitation will be from noon until the hour of service on Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
