Obituary of Kenneth John Korvela

Springville – Kenneth John Korvela, 83, of Springville, passed away at 12:30 am on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington. Born February 7, 1937 in Norway, MI, where he was raised by his beloved grandmother, Katherine Larson, and his adoring father, Edwin Korvela. He married Mary Lou Glasgow on June 18, 1958 and she survives. He was employed as a truck driver on the Crane Naval Base for over 33 years until his retirement. He served in the Army National Guard and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps where he received many medals for his service and achievements. He was involved in the local chapter of the Eagles and a member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Lou, of Springville; three sons, Mark Korvela and wife, Pam, Greg Korvela and wife, April and Brian Korvela; grandchildren, Kama Korvela, Kenneth Kray Korvela, Kody John Korvela, and wife, Leann, Amy Korvela, Marc Korvela, Justin Baker and wife, Cami, Tyler Baker, Kameron Korvela and wife, Danielle, Kole Korvela, Mary Kenna Korvela, Courtney Thompson and husband, Trevor, David Baker, Ashley Smith and husband, Jacob, Micheal Terry, Dustin Terry and wife, Mikaela; several great grandchildren including Whitney Baker and Brayden Patton; a sister, Carol Korvela Meeks, of Troy, MI and her children, Jennifer Meek Knaack and husband, David of Troy, MI, and children, Erick Meek and wife, Shannon and children, of Lake Orion, MI and Steven Meek of Roseville, MI. He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin, his grandmother, Katherine Larson; a son, Kenneth John Korvela, Jr. and a daughter, Kimberley Lynn Korvela. Military rites will be accorded at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 26th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until the hour of service on Wednesday, August 26th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Family and friends may express condolences at www.daycarter.com.
