Obituary of Ronnie D. Smith

Bedford – Ronnie D. Smith, 76, of Bedford, died Sunday, February 9, 2020. Born March 26, 1943 in Monroe Co., he was the son of Russell and Kathaleen (Stafford) Smith. He married Brenda Luallen on September 29, 1961 and she survives. He owned and operated Smith Excavating for several years and later worked as a backhoe operator for North Lawrence Water Corporation and had served on their board. Survivors include his wife, Brenda, of Bedford; his mother, Kathaleen; children, Scott Smith and wife, Lori, of Bedford, Missy Kelly and husband, Tom, of Leesville, Darren Smith and wife, Myra, of Bedford; grandchildren, Brooke Kelly, of Bloomington, Camdon Cobb and wife, Rhiannon “Charlie”, of Fayetteville, Brandon Smith and wife, Chantelle, of New Mexico, Devin Smith, of Bloomington, Derek Smith and wife, Tessa, of Bedford, Aaron Smith and wife, Tori, of Bloomington, Dustin Smith, of Bedford, Rylee Kelly, of Bedford; nineteen great grandchildren, Jacelyn, Garrett, Katie, Zackery, Gage, Colton, Garrett, Gabe, Vera, Brylee, Christian, Aubree, Silas, Ellie, Connor, Khloey, Brooks, Nathan, Abby, and Jerry; two sisters, Ellen Sears and husband, Paul, and Rita Hawkins and husband, Richard, all of Bedford; two brothers, Russell “Cutt” Smith and wife, Trish, Mike Smith and wife, Jill, all of Bedford; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 13th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Larry Ritter officiating. Burial will follow in the Judah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 12th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
