Obituary of Ernest E. Hamilton

Bedford – Ernest E. “Gene” Hamilton, 92, of Bedford, died Wednesday, August 07, 2019 at his residence.

Born May 28, 1927 in Sullivan Co., IN, he was the son of Sam R. and Ann M. (Alumbaugh) Hamilton. He married Harriett Knowles on August 12, 1951 and she preceded him in death on August 27, 1997. He was an executive in the lumber business, retiring in 1995 from Black, Carmichael & Klein. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII, and a member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. He was a charter member of Hillcrest Christian Church serving as a deacon, elder, teacher and servant, and was a member of the Central Church of Christ.

Survivors include three daughters, Marsha Chapman and husband, Rick, of Bedford, Melody Carter and husband, Ronald, of Solsberry, and Melinda Hamilton, of Bloomington; four grandchildren, Ryan (Amber), Emily, Ross (Danielle), and Wesley; two great grandchildren, Jaida and Maddie; a brother, Frank Hamilton, of Sullivan;  adopted into his family were Billie Reasor Boshears, Josh (Tara), Jenni (Everett) and their children; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers, two sisters, and Dr. Rowlen Reasor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Monday, August 12th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary, Bedford, IN with Pastor Phil McDonald officiating. Following the service,  military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Burial will follow in Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, IN at 2:30 pm. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, August 11th at the Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford, IN.
