Obituary of Rosamond L. Oswald

Rosamond L. “Rose” Oswald, 83, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away Thursday, August 1st, 2019. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose primary focus was the care and comfort of her family. Rose was a parishioner of St. Thomas More Catholic Church for forty-three years who, before illness prevented her, regularly attended mass. She was a kindergarten teachers assistant at St. Thomas More Catholic School for several years and active in the school PTA when her children were in attendance. Before the convent adjacent to the church closed, Rose enjoyed the company of several of the nuns in residence, taking particular pleasure from her relationship with Sister Rita Fitzpatrick while trying her hand at oil painting. She eagerly looked forward to visits from her children and grandchildren, baking, especially during the holidays, and chatting at great length with her friends and neighbors over a cup of hot coffee.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Howard J. and Levedah Lewis, and her husband, John E. Oswald, Sr.
She is survived by her sisters Mary McAfee, Jane Hoseman, and Wilma Beeson; sons John E. Oswald, Jr. (Jennifer), and Michael A. Oswald (Lola); six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and her companion Wayne A. Barber.
Services were conducted at Faith Chapel in Pensacola, FL. Private graveside servies will be held at Silverville Baptist Cemetery. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.
