Obituary of Jeanne Speer

Bedford - Jeanne Speer, age 81, passed away on March 23, 2019 at the IU Hospice House in Bloomington, IN.

Gloria Jean “Jeanne” was born on May 25, 1937 in Oolitic, IN to Jesse and Pearl (Moore) Stailey, whom preceded her in death.   She graduated from Oolitic High School in 1955.  Jeanne married Fred H. Speer on April 16, 1956.

Jeanne is survived by Fred H. Speer, her loving husband of nearly 63 years.   Her children are Brian K., who preceded her in infancy, Trent A. Speer of Bloomington, IN and Susan E. (J. David) George of Bedford, IN.  The love for her grandchildren, Adam V. (Brianna) Glenn, Lauren George and great grandson Liam V. Glenn all of Bedford, IN, was abundantly clear to all that she met.

She is also survived by her sister and life-long best friend, Ruth Plummer.  Her brother, Lowell Stailey, preceded her in death, but Jeanne is survived by her sister-in-law Ruthie Stailey of Ft. Myers, FL.

Jeanne had several nieces and nephews, but her family would like to thank those with the opportunity with such short notice to embrace her to make her life more comfortable and enjoyable during her illness: Lee Ann Plummer, Roberta Plummer, Julie (Fred) D’Alesio, and Mike (Debbie) Stailey.

She looked forward to spending time with her friends, traveling and following IU and BNL basketball. She loved going to all the activities of her children and grandchildren and enriching the lives of all the kids in her family.

Jeanne was a member of the Oolitic Baptist Church and Laborers International Union of North America Local 204. She retired from the Indiana Laborers Training Trust Fund as the Office Manager in 1999 after a 27-year career.

Funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 29th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Mark Fugate officiating.  Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 PM to 8 PM on Thursday and from 10 AM until the hour of service on Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to Bedford Lions Club, 1308 Oak Manor, Bedford, IN. 47421. Family and friends may express condolences at www.daycarter.com.
