Obituary of William L Mattox

Bedford – William L. Mattox, 88, of Bedford, died at 2:10 pm on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at his residence.

He was born July 2, 1930 to John and Jeanette (King) Mattox. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Alice Shaff on June 9, 1950. He played high school basketball at Tunnelton High School and was a 1950 graduate. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford. He retired as a steam fitter from General Motors in 1991.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Bedford; a daughter, Kathi (Scott) Thomas; two sons-in-law, Tim Goodin and Mark Jost; six grandchildren, Eric (Julie) Thomas, Adam (Cristy) Thomas, Kami (Alan) Bush, Malynda (Derik) Fields, Matt Goodin, Bryan (Kat) Jost, Brent (Eliza) Jost; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean (Logan) Lee and Shirley Green; sisters-in-law, Judy Shaff, Janie Shaff, and Betty (Dick) Cameron; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Diane Jost and Cindy Goodin; a grandson, Reid Goodin; a granddaughter, Susan Thomas a brother, James Ivan Mattox; a sister, Janet Hobbs and husband, Leslie; brothers-in-law, Bob Shaff, Virgil Shaff, and Jim Green.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 18th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Lee Brown officiating. Burial will follow in White River Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Monday, March 18th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Pallbearers are his five grandsons: Eric Thomas, Adam Thomas, Byan Jost, Brent Jost, Matt Goodin and his nephew, Jimmy Shaff.
